what we do
The Centre for Developmental Science is a research centre using basic science to understand the development of infants, children, and adults, to improve the lives of families in Aotearoa and globally. By uncovering the individual, contextual, cognitive, and social processes that underlie development across the lifespan, the Centre forms a hub for developmental science, in the University of Auckland | Waipapa Taumata Rau.
The Research Centre houses academic staff members from the School of Psychology whose research and expertise lie in innovative methods and approaches from developmental science mixed with the cognitive sciences, data science, machine learning, virtual reality, genomics, and more. We apply these tools across broad age ranges and diverse interactive contexts, including parent-child interactions, child-child interactions, and infant-experimenter interactions. These include studies completed in-person at the School of Psychology, in the community, and at large scale on the Internet, via methods of gamified citizen science.
